Who remembers gathering up handfuls of these on the playground at recess to throw into the air? It’s one of those simple pleasures that never gets old. As they glide to the ground spinning like a top, these natural whirlybirds remind me that even mother nature has a sense of humor.
From just a few minutes of research, I found that this fruit of the maple tree is actually called a samara; but I will forever call them helicopters because that’s just more fun. ;P
