Not much time for a creative photo today, just a reminder that the hummingbirds should be back in the area soon. Time to get the feeder up!
The hummingbird food mixture is very simple to make. The rule of thumb is one part white sugar to 4 parts water. Dissolve the sugar in boiling water for about 2 minutes, stirring frequently. Let the mix cool completely and it’s ready to go. It’s not necessary to add the red food coloring, as there is some debate that this might be harmful to the birds. Adding anything else like honey or brown sugar is also not recommended because these things can cause the mixture to ferment faster which is also harmful. Be sure to keep your hummingbird feeder clean and refill as soon or sooner than the mixture becomes cloudy. The warmer the temperature, the more often the mixture should be changed.
